Google is sunsetting Firebase Studio on March 22, 2027. The migration page shows a last-updated line of 2026-11-05 UTC.
Google disabled new workspace creation and new user signup as of June 22, 2026.
However, Google says people can still open existing workspaces until March 22, 2027, and those workspaces will still receive critical security patches and Gemini model updates.
Google says you must migrate any project that should continue past the sunset before March 22, 2027.
On March 22, 2027, Firebase Studio shuts down. Google then permanently deletes all remaining data, and that data cannot be recovered.
What still runs
The company is moving lessons from the Firebase Studio preview into Google AI Studio and Antigravity. Cloud Firestore, Authentication, and App Hosting keep working outside the studio.
Databases and user data continue to function. The sunset applies only to the Firebase Studio development environment.
When the change started
On March 19, 2026, Google announced the sunset, and migration tools started rolling out to Firebase Studio. The page describes a one-year transition period for that move.
Where projects can go
Google points code-first work to Antigravity, including projects built from a template, an imported repository, or Code view. Antigravity is an agent-first desktop environment. It also supports other models, including Claude and GPT-OSS, in addition to Gemini.
Google AI Studio is the web-based path, including apps made with the App Prototyping agent. Google calls it the fastest path from a prompt to a full-stack production app. Cloud Firestore and Firebase Authentication are built into that studio.
The exported zip does not include agent chat history. Those chat files sit in /home/user/.idx/ai inside the workspace. For Prototyper sessions, the prompts also appear in the git log.
Only the person who created a workspace can use the Move now button. Someone who only has a shared copy can duplicate the workspace or export the code from Code view. A manual export from a shared workspace still points the backend and API keys at the original owner’s Firebase project.
Google says the studio export command is optimized for Next.js, Flutter, and Angular workspaces. Google says the migration may not update all code artifacts for other workspace types. A project that starts in Google AI Studio can move to Antigravity later from the Code tab, through Export, then Export to Antigravity.
